Conducted research dives in conjunction with NOAA’s Monitor National Marine Sanctuary (MNMS) in order to positively identify the wreck off the Diamond Shoals of Cape Hatteras. The dives consisted of documenting the wreck by way of videography as well obtaining measurements of key features of the vessel. Obtained evidence from the wreck as well as results of historical research conclusively indicated that the wreck is that of the SS Merak.
Findings were presented at the Society for Historical Archaeology (SHA) 2016 Conference on Historical and Underwater Archaeology in Washington, D.C.
