Three BAREG divers, supported by three M/V My Purpose Holds boat crew, retrieved the U-1105 wreck site mooring buoy from its station in the lower Potomac River. Weather was fair topside, water T was 41 degrees F, and seas were running one to two. Current picked up during the dives generating turbidity clouds and dispersing the divers as they made SMB ascents. The buoy will receive a major overhaul before it’s put back on station in the spring. After landing the buoy we regrouped and warmed up for dinner: locally caught rockfish and crab cakes, and unknown origin sausages (WTF?, well, there’s always one outlier).

The BAREG Buoy Ops Team is a cadre of experienced technical wreck divers that specialize in working in cold water, strong current, and dark, low viz conditions. These divers are selected for the team because they get the job done despite the cold and dark, and because they can problem solve underwater in adverse conditions.

This concludes BAREG dive operations for 2024. It was a really good dive year, as we’ll review at our symposium on 25 JAN. Thanks to all the BAREG divers who dove with us this year and to all BAREG members for their continued support.
